Workplace Assessments
Assessment Service for those employed or self-employed
Hands-Free Computing has a team of experienced assessors, located nationwide who will visit you at your place of work to talk through the difficulties you are experiencing.
The types of assessments we are most commonly asked to provide are either technical, ergonomic or sensory. Or in some cases all three together.
Our assessors have all been chosen, not just for their technical abilities, but also for their passion for resolving problems and for their empathetic nature.
Research shows that the majority of workers would benefit from adjusting their computer in some way, to help with issues such as dyslexia, back and neck strain, sore eyes, headaches or hand and arm strain. If these issues are left untreated they can impact on performance, morale and in the worst case scenario even lead to people losing their jobs – which is what we aim to prevent at all costs.
What will happen during an assessment?
- Our assessor will talk to you in confidence about the difficulties you are experiencing, and the history behind your circumstances.
- They will, with your help, get an accurate understanding of the exact problems you are facing and discuss various solutions with you. They will take into account the environment in which you work, such as your desk, chair, space and noise around you.
- Our assessor will demonstrate or show you (where appropriate) various hardware and software solutions, to make sure you are happy with what has been suggested.
What will happen after an assessment?
- Our assessor will write a detailed report about their meeing with you and their recommendations for adaptations which will make your working life easier.
- The report will be forward to you so you can check that all elements are correct. It will then be sent to Access to Work who may have requested or paid for the assessment. It will not be sent to your employer.
- A decision will then be made about what is to be supplied to you and dates will be arranged for any training sessions which might have been recommended.
Our assessors reveal what they love about their jobs:
Cate Adamson - Ergonomic Assessor based in our North East region
"I am a qualified physiotherapist and my last job was based in a busy outpatients department. I love getting out and about and I particularly enjoy the the variety of clients that I get to carry out workstation assessments for.
"Each client I see is totally individual and I love the challenge of finding the perfect solutions for each one of them. Most of all I love the fact that I am making a real and positive impact on their working lives. In many cases we are enabling people with health problems to stay in their jobs, and that can only be a good thing for everybody."
Frank Gilbert – technical assessor based in our South East Region
“What makes my job so worthwhile is seeing the smiles on people’s faces at the end of an assessment. Often when they meet me they can be nervous and sceptical. But when I make them aware of what help is available and tell them I will do my very best to find a solution for them, I can usually visibly see a weight being lifted from their shoulders.”
