#disruptivebytes: Disability, Accessibility and Enabling technologies

Next Wednesday, Hands-Free Managing Director, Lawrence Howard will be a keynote speaker for a Disruptive Media Learning Lab’s live streamed event on Disability, Accessibility and Enabling technologies.

The session will explore lessons learnt and existing practices of Hereward College, Hands Free Computing and the Swing project with respect to supporting and enabling disabled people who are using technologies, as well as facilitating discussions around the issues of accessibility in teaching and learning.

During his segment, Lawrence will be discussing the use of speech recognition software such as Dragon NaturallySpeaking to help assist people with disabilities, as well as demonstrating the software and its capabilities. Lawrence will also explain how it helps people in the workplace, who have dyslexia or a physical disability and how it can be used as a preventative measure against conditions such as RSI (repetitive strain injury).
